Frequently Asked Questions about Kikai yoga

What is the difference between restorative Yoga & Yin Yoga? 
  • The difference with Yin and Restorative Yoga is first the length of time each postures is held, in Yin Yoga each posture is held between 2 up to 5 minutes while in Restorative yoga each posture is held between 5 up to 20 min. 
  • Both Yin and Restorative Yoga use probs, but in Yin Yoga the probs are used for either deepen or ease the stretch, and in Restorative yoga the probs are used to support our body into a deeper comfort and relaxation. 
  • Restorative yoga doesn’t have any fixed postures while Yin Yoga has 20-26 fixed poses that is used in different variations in a class 
  • Restorative yoga is all Passive stretching where no force or power is used and we focus more about relaxing into each posture, while in Yin Yoga use a more passive active static stretch which means that, we sometimes flex a counter muscle to go deeper into the targeted one. Ex, we flex or quadriceps to stretch out or Hamstrings 
  • All postures in a Yin or Restorative Yoga Class are seated postures
  • There are 5-8 postures we normally work with in a Restorative Yoga class while in a Yin Yoga Class there could be more in due to that the set of time each postured is held is less compared to a restorative class. 
What is Vinyasa Flow? 
  • in a Vinyasa Class we move from one posture directly into the next in a very fluid and “flowing” way, here each posture aligns into the next one whit a focus to also connect our Breath with our movements. 
  • Compared to a Yin or Restorative yoga class, Vinyasa Yoga goes in a more Steady paced tempo where each posture is held between 6 to 60 seconds normally or around 1 up to 5 breaths. 
Am I to inflexible? / do I have to be flexible?
  • This is one of our favourite and most frequently asked questions — we will answer it with a counter question; 
    Would you have to know how to play tennis, for taking a tennis course? 
    You hear how it sounds right… the answer is No. But many people think that they need to be flexible to practice yoga, where the truth is that, Yoga will help you into become more flexible. We build this flexibility by combining balance with strength, coordinations as well as a sense of physical confidence and overall – wellbeing  
I have some kind of physical illness can I still join?
  • Always check with your local health provider before starting with any new Sport 
  • We always encourage you to listen to the messages and signals coming from your own body, and to never push and press over those limits.   
I am pregnant can I still Join an Aerial Yoga class? 
  • Always check with your health provider before taking a class, if your further then 5 month in we do not recommend you to do any antigravity or deep stretching hip releases postures. 
  • We also do not recommend any lying postures on your back neither laying on the belly tho those postures can have a damaging effect 
  • Also be careful in certain balance postures to not risk falling during practice.
I have diabetic can I join a Aerial Fitness Class?
  • Check with your health provider before starting any new sport, also depending on if you’re taking insulin.
  • As we go against gravity, using major muscle groups which increase the amount of Glucose released from our blood into our muscles and can result in a sugar drop from 30-50-80 points. And the basic premise of the anti-gravity is to open up the receptor locks, move the blood glucose into the cells and prevent this excess blood glucose from getting converted into fats.
Do I weight too much?
  • No, but depending on how your blood sugar is, you might be experiencing some pressure in Serrano upside down or inversion postures, where the head basically goes under your Heart. 
Do I need to bring my own equipment ( mat, yoga blocks)?
  • We offer yoga mats, blocks, blanket and bolsters in our studio but, if you want anything more for your highest comfort please feel free to bring it with you to practice.
I am not fit — can I do yoga? 
  • Of-course, now see this is the beauty with yoga.
How do I pay for the class? 
  • You can pay directly here on our webpage by card and in our studio ( with both cash and card). 
What should I wear?   
  • Something comfortable where you can easily move, since we’re gonna be going through different variations of postures you want to wear something where you can move freely. 
What type of yoga do we teach? 
  • Vinyasa with a touch of Yin.
  • Yin Yoga & Restorative Yoga. 
  • Posture Improvement.
What can I expect in a Stretching Class? 
  • In our stretching classes we focusing on both plane and multiplied joint movements, in both passive and active static stretching.
How long is a class? 
  • The duration of 1 class is 60 min.
What can I expect in a Yoga Class? 
  • In all yoga classes, which is more than only a physical movement or exercise, we practice and also work a lot with our Breath, Body and mind connection. We work from three(3) different aspects and those are: to improve our over all Body strength, Flexibility and Balance.
How often should I practice to have a good result? 
  • There’s no right or wrong answer to this, all depending on what your main Goal with your practice is. We would say that 2 times per week is a good sustainable start and after one month if you want to add in more practice, start practicing three times per week. The goal here is to find a sustainable balance, that’s maintainable in the long run in your every day life. 
Is it recommended to eat food right before an Aerial, Vinyasa, Yin or Restorative Yoga Class? 
  • We recommend that you wait 2 hours after having a large meal before practice Yoga, if you want to eat something right before practice try eat something light as a Fruit, or a Juice or anything that is easily digested and doesn’t take up so much space in your belly.
